API Standards
In 1919, the American Petroleum Institute was established in Columbia, and since 1924, it has become the center for developing and maintaining standards for the global oil and gas industry. The development of these standards has significantly aided the industry in achieving consumer satisfaction and in the production and invention of high-quality products and the provision of satisfactory services. The American Petroleum Institute, claiming collaboration with 650 companies in production, refining, distribution, and other sectors of the oil industry, is considered the largest trade association of the American oil and gas industry. This association publishes over 300,000 works each year, including books, technical standards, e-books, software, and catalogs. The topics you can find in the catalog include the following sections: Exploration and production, oil measurement, marketing, transportation, refining, safety and firefighting, and more.
Subcommittees and working groups composed of industry experts form the API standards committees, which are responsible for developing API standards. The process works in such a way that in the first stage, the need for a new standard is approved by the groups, and in the next stage, they proceed to develop the standard or to approve and review them.
